During 2020, a research was conducted in the wine region of Srijem with the aim of assessing the suitability of the existing soil for growing vines. The necessary data were collected from soil samples from 30 locations, and along with them, an analysis of the basic climatic conditions that are present in the said area was performed. It was found that 80 % of soil samples belong to only two types of soil. Chernozem and eutric brown soil. In both types, the analysis of agrochemical and pedophysical indicators showed predominantly favorable relationships. Significant deficiencies include high amounts of phosphorus in chernozem, and variable pH value and amount of potassium in eutric brown soil. On the other hand, the moderate temperature and properly distributed amount of precipitation during the year results in the undisturbed development of the vines in all stages of growth. However, a potential danger in the form of maintaining the high suitability of these soils was also determined. One of them is the longterm intensive use of chernozem, and in addition, significant climate changes over a period of 30 years. In order to achieve the greatest possible preparedness for the potential unsuitability of the soil, a monitoring system is necessary in order to implement repair measures in a timely manner. For this purpose, today's GIS tools provide high-quality organization and presentation of the necessary data.
