Abstract (english) | Pumpkins have been used for many years as a source of food, but also in oil processing. In Croatia, ordinary vegetable pumpkin is used for obtaining oil. Cultivation is based on high-quality seeds and soil cultivation, which ultimately brings good fruit. By studying and testing the germination of seeds, it is possible to improve the yield and quality of crops. The aim of the final paper is to determine the influence of the pH of the aqueous solution on the germination of common pumpkin. For the purposes of the research, the method of influencing the seeds was used under controlled conditions inside a laboratory air-conditioning chamber. To determine the germination and morphological characteristics of the seedlings, oil pumpkin seeds were tested using 7 different pH values of the aqueous solution (2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, and 8.5). By researching a total of 40 seeds in 4 repetitions when challenging 7 different pH values of the water solution. The average length of seedlings in this study was 7.6 cm. The smallest seedlings developed in a very acidic medium at pH 3.5, where the average length of the seedlings was only 3.6 cm. The largest seedlings developed at pH 7.5, where the length of the seedlings was in the range of 9.1 to 11 centimetres. |
