The development of agricultural production is of great importance for the Croatian economy. Information on the quaqlity and management of a large agricultural area in Croatia is not available, which hinders timely action in case of adverse changes in the soil. The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance of implementation of agricultural land monitoring system in the Republic of Croatia, which would facititate the identification of risk areas depending on the type and severity of threats to soil as the resources nesessary to its primary production, which is the food production. Without the development of the system of periodic soil date collestion, it is impossible to notice the negative changes that lead to the degradation of chemical, physical and/or biological properties of the soil in due time. The establishment of na agricultural land information system provides a possibility to develop a strategy for conservation, mitigation, prevention and repair of chemical. physical and biological parameters of the soil. The strategy of sutainable development of agriculture is almost unthinkable without the continuous monitoring of the agriculturel land as an important component of environmental monitoring. Croatia has a great potential for agricultural development based on sustainable principles, including the introduction and implementation of monitoring as a bassis for sustaineble management of agricultural land.
