Abstract
Brz napredak molekularne i genetske tehnologije te bioinformatike omogućio je nove alate za bržu i precizniju genomsku procjenu životinja. Genomski markeri korisni su za predviđanje uzgojnih vrijednosti i odabir određenih fenotipskih svojstava te genetsko poboljšanje kojim se utječe na proizvodna svojstva, a donosi ekonomska dobit. Ovo omogućuje brži odabir superiornih jedinki i prije spolne zrelosti. Genomski makeri se ne primjenjuju samo u svrhu unapređenja uzgoja komercijalnih pasmina, već i u svrhu zaštite i očuvanja izvornih pasmina od izumiranja. Stvaranje visokoproizvodnih životinja je utjecalo na smanjenje genetske raznolikosti, povećanje homozigotnosti, pojavu genetskih bolesti te gubitak izvornih pasmina domaćih životinja. Uporabom genomskih markera moguće je lakše i točnije procjeniti strukturu promatrane populacije, bolje upravljanjti genetskom raznolikošću, kao i križanjem u srodstvu. Prednosti su mnogobrojne: smanjenje generacijskog intervala u programima uzgoja i veći učinak selekcije, izolacija genetskih bolesti, razvoj poželjnih osobina, veća manipulacija u uzgoju pasmina i uzgojnih tipova konja. Cilj diplomskog rada bio je prikazati načine kojima se opisuje struktura i genetska različitost neke populacije uporabom markera visoke razlučivosti s posebnim osvrtom na njihovu primjenu u konja
Abstract (english)
Fast advances in molecular technologies and bioinformatics enabled new tools for faster and more accurate genomic estimation of livestock animals. Genomic markers are useful for the prediction of breeding values and the selection of phenotypical traits of interest. This enables faster selection of superior individuals even before their sexual maturity. Genomic markers are not used solely for the improvement of commercial breeds, but also for the protection and conservation of native breeds. The creation of highly productive animals influenced the reduction of genetic diversity, increase of homozygosity, development of hereditary diseases and loss of autochthonous breeds. By using the genomic markers it is possible to estimate the structure of the population more easily, but also to manage genetic variability and inbreeding more efficiently. They provide multiple advantages: decrease of generation interval, better selection efficiency, isolation of genetic diseases and better manipulation of breeding types. The aim of this thesis was to show methods by which a certain population can be described on a genomic level, with special emphasis on the application of novel genomic tools in horse breeding
