Abstract
Ptičja gripa akutna je zarazna bolest ptica koju uzrokuje virus influence tip A. U središtu interesa javnosti nalazi se visokopatogeni virus influence A podtip H5N1. Sve ptice mogu oboljeti od ptičje gripe, ali i brojni sisavci, uključujući ljude, osjetljivi su na virus. Virus influence tip A je RNA virus koji na svojoj površini ima dva različita glikoproteina, hemaglutinin i neuraminidazu, koji su nestabilni te uslijed njihovih promjena dolazi do stvaranja novih, često izrazito patogenih virusa. Prvi slučajevi ptičje gripe u čovjeka zabilježeni su 1997. U Hong Kongu, a visoka smrtnost u trenutačnoj epidemiji u jugoistočnoj Aziji je zabrinjavajuća. Virus ptičje gripe može se prenijeti na ljude kapljičnim putem s ptica ili putem intermedijarnog domaćina. U čovjeka se može prezentirati kao pneumonija, “influenza-like” bolest, infekcija gornjih dišnih putova, akutni gastroenteritis i encefalitis. Pneumonija se često komplicira sindromom respiratornog distresa. Smrtnost kompliciranih slučajeva je oko 80%. Infekcija uzrokovana virusom H5N1 liječi se oseltamivirom, a još uvijek ne postoji učinkovito cjepivo
Abstract (english)
Avian influenza is an acute infectious disease of birds caused by influenza virus type A. In the center of public interest is a highly pathogenic influenza A virus subtype H5N1. All birds can get sick from bird flu, and many mammals, including humans, are susceptible to the virus. Influenza virus type A RNA virus that is on its surface has two distinct glycoproteins, hemagglutinin and neuraminidase, which are unstable and due to their changes in the formation of new, often highly pathogenic viruses. The first cases of bird flu in humans recorded in 1997. In Hong Kong, a high mortality rate in the current outbreak in Southeast Asia is worrisome. Avian flu can be transmitted to humans through droplets from birds or through an intermediate host. The man may be present as pneumonia, "influenza-like" illness, upper respiratory infection, acute gastroenteritis and encephalitis. Pneumonia is often complicated by respiratory distress syndrome. Mortality rate of complicated cases is about 80%. Infections caused by H5N1 virus is treated with oseltamivir, and there is still no effective vaccine.
