The Republic of Croatia has many resources, especially when it relates to drinking water and fertile land. Due to the need for increased food production it is necessary to act in accordance with it. First of all, it is necessary to regulate the land in terms of drainage, ie. water - earth relations because that leads to a significant increase in yield. Also, it is important to know the harmful effects of excess water on agricultural lands. Croatia has not done enough on this issue, mostly because of supposed lack of funds, but also because of the bad government policy, so infrastructure condition of melioration facilities is in the unenviable level. Air, soil types and crops are factors that need to be thoroughly investigated in each area prior to the installation of drainage systems to ensure their maximum effectiveness. There are four basic ways of drainage: surface, underground, combined and vertical drainage. Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages that are necessary to be known and in accordance with that installed in areas where they will bring the greatest benefits. Great potential lies in regulating the production lands. In order to increase production efficiency, it is necessary to implement measures of consolidation of the agricultural lands. Cooperation with ICID and UN commitees can bring many benefits for Croatia's agriculture and water management. Capital project of the Danube - Sava canal construction is invaluable to the Slavonian agriculture and economic growth throughout the country. Construction of drainage systems in all necessary areas would bring many benefits, but an important factor that should be accomplished before is unblocking the CNB to provide funds for its implementation without new loans abroad. Climate change is increasingly causing major damage and should encourage a better response in terms of preventing them. Caring for the environment, water, land and wildlife must be paramount in all planning activities and measures because it is the national interest of the Republic of Croatia.
