Seed germination is the most important feature of seed quality which primarily depends on the genetic potential of cultivars and hybrids. Also, an important role in seed germination has dormancy, which is an adaptive feature that allows efficient and even distribution of germination over a period of time in a regulated seed population. In agricultural production there are many factors affecting the level of yield, and thus the financial gain, so one of the biggest problems is preharvest sprouting (PHS). The damage caused by PHS in the world right now is around 1 billion dollars. The main golas of this research were (1) to assess the differences between wheat genotypes in germination energy and germination considering storage length, (2) to examine germination per class and seed dormancy after harvest, (3) to assess variability of germination properties per class and seed dormancy using molecular markers, (4) to mark off specific groups of genotypes with the best combination of germination properties. Lower values of percentage of germination energy (88.45%) and germination (90.92 %) have been determined in seed that has been stored for one year comparing to the seed that has been stored for two or three years. Cultivars that had high germination of seeds stored for five years (94 % and more) are Una, Tonka, Žitarka and Kuna. the average germination per class on a scale of 1 - 7 was significantly higher in the first growing year (4.62) compared to the second growing year (2.92). Also throughout the testing of dormancy after harvest significant differences have been determined between first (germination - 85.52%) and the second year (germination - 70.64 %) of research. Differences between individual cultivars are significant for the tested properties of germination per class and dormancy test.
