The combination of nanobiotechnology with a new generation liquid immersion (TIB/TIS) bioreactor system represents a modern approach that further improves the process of micropropagation of plant species in vitro. The research was conducted in the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory of the Department of Fruit Growing, Viticulture and Enology (Fruit Growing Laboratory) of the Faculty of Agrobiotechnical Sciences Osijek (FAZOS). The aim of this thesis is to investigate the influence of silica nanoparticles (SiO2-Np) on the morphological characteristics of blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) in vitro in the SETIS liquid immersion bioreactor system. At the experimental level, no statistically significant differences were found between the applied SiO2 nanoparticle treatments and the control variant in morphological parameters, number of shoots, shoot diameter and length of intermedia. Significant differences were found in treatments with a higher concentration of SiO2 nanoparticles (75 mg/L) but also in lower concentrations of SiO2 nanoparticles (30 mg/L) where a higher number of leaves and nodes was recorded compared to the control. Productivity or multiplication per shoot was significantly higher in both treatments with SiO2 nanoparticles compared to the control treatment: Also, other morphological parameters, the number and height of shoots and the length of internodes and multiplication per number of shoots were higher in treatments with silicon compared to the control but not significantly. From our results it is evident that increasing the concentration of SiO2 nanoparticles has a stimulating effect on increasing morphological parameters and productivity (multiplication) parameters. These results highlight the value and potential of applying SiO2 nanoparticles in plant biotechnology with an emphasis on improving the efficiency of in vitro propagation methods within the liquid immersion bioreactor system. Further research should focus on testing higher concentrations and understanding the mechanisms behind the observed effects, as well as optimizing their application on various plant and fruit species.
