Abstract
Recirkulacijski akvatični sustavi (RAS) predstavljaju sofisticiran način uzgoja ribe u zatvorenim bazenima s kontroliranim uvjetima uzgojne sredine. Tehnologija RAS-a, konceptualno razvijena 50-ih godina prošlog stoljeća, prihvaćena je posljednjih godina, kao uspješna u komercijalnom smislu uzgoja slatkovodne i morske ribe. RAS nudi mnoge prednosti poput smanjenja potrošnje vode i utroška energije za zagrijavanje vode, brze i efikasne kontrole bolesti ribe, fleksibilnosti smještaja uzgojnih kapaciteta u blizini tržišta te smanjenje troškova transporta itd. Glavni nedostaci su visoka kapitalna ulaganja u sustav, operativni troškovi te opasnost od kvara. RAS odgovora na sve veća ekološka ograničenja, posebice u zemljama s ograničenim pristupom vodi. S obzirom da se voda ponovno koristi, zahtjeva se samo 20 % količine, u odnosu na zahtjeve tradicionalne metode uzgoja. Unatoč ekološki prihvatljivim karakteristikama i sve većem broju zemalja koje primjenjuju RAS, njegov je doprinos proizvodnji manji u odnosu na proizvodnju u kavezima, protočnim sustavima ili ribnjacima, poglavito radi visokih troškova.
Abstract (english)
Recirculation aquaculture systems (RAS) represent a new and unique way to farm fish, in indoor tanks with a "controlled" environment. Even RAS have been developed since the mid 1950’s, only in the past few years has their potential to grow fish on a commercial-scale been realized. Benefits of RAS are: minimizing supply of water and energy for water heating, quick and effective disease control, flexibility to locate production facilities near large markets (reducing transportation costs), etc. Main disadvantages of RAS are expensive systems to develop (high capital investment) and to operate, and the danger of mechanical or electrica lpower failure. RAS are particularly use full in areas where land and water are expensive and not readily available. Since water is reused, the water volume requirements in RAS are only about 20 % of what conventional open pond culture demands. Despite its environmentally friendly characteristics and the increasing number of European countries applying RAS technology, its contribution to production is still small compared to (sea) cages, flow-through systems or ponds, mostly because of high expenses.
