Field experiments were carried out on agricultural areas of the Croatian Center for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Institute for Seed and Seedlings in Osijek. During two-year research, the efficacy of certain herbicides and their combinations in the recommended and reduced rates on weed species and on soybean yields was determined. Combination of herbicides metribuzin + s-metolachlor was used in pre-emergence application, and combination of oxasulfuron + thifensulfuron + cycloxidim in post-emergence application. Dominant broad-leaved weed species determined in the study were Abutilon theophrasti, Amaratnthus retroflexus, Amrosia artemisiifolia, Chenopodium album, Fallopia convolvulus, while Echinochloa crus-galli and Sorghum halepense were the dominant narrow-leaved weed species. The use of different herbicide treatments had a statistically significant effect on the reduction of number of weeds per m2 in comparison to the untreated control, and preparations with active ingredients oxasulfuron + tifensulfuron + cycloxidim applied in split application in full and reduced rates proved to be the best with an efficiency coefficient of 70.61 % and 67.77 %. All of the applied preparations statistically significantly influenced the increase in seed yield compared to the control, and the highest yield was achieved in the treatment with active ingredients oxasulfuron + thifensulfuron + cycloxidim applied in split application at the reduced rate. The results obtained indicate on the possibility of achieving expected soybean yields using reduced rates of herbicides.
