Abstract (english) | The Solanaceae family (nightshade) is a large plant family that includes about 100 genera and over 25,000 species. In addition to wild representatives from the genera Atropa, Scopolia, Mandragora, Lycium, Physalis, Hyosciamus, Nicandra, Datura, Salpichroa, this family also includes important cultivated species such as eggplant, tomatoes and potatoes. The vast majority of representatives are extremely poisonous plant species and contain poisonous alkaloids (hyoscyamine, atropine, scopolamine, nicotine, mandragorine, solanine). Species with fruits similar to edible fruits, that attract with bright colors, are particularly dangerous such as, for example, bittersweet nightshade. Symptoms of poisoning include anxiety, confusion, hallucinations, incomprehensible speech, heart disorders, and even death. Species from nightshade family are used in the pharmaceutical industry, folk and modern medicine and homeopathic treatments. |
